People want to lose weight, whether it’s the last 5 pounds or a 150 pounds – No one is happy with where they’re at when it comes to fitness. We can’t blame people entirely, can we? The media shoves into our faces hot supermodels in bikinis and muscular guys that are so ripped their veins start popping out. Whether you’re a girl aiming to fit into that cute bikini or a guy starting on a cut, these tips will help you reach your fitness goals fast and in a healthy way.
Before I start with the tips, you might raise an eyebrow and question yourself, why am I getting fitness advice from a random dude on the internet? If you did, you’re absolutely right. I wanted to post an article today and this seems to be one of the most searched questions on the internet, not just in 2017 but 2016, 2015, 2014 and so on. So if you’ll allow me, let me take advantage of this insecurity you people have about your body and sell you my fitness programme and well make money. Just Kidding (I’d have put JK, but you older folks reading this article will have a hard time understanding it). So all my lame jokes apart, I think I know a stuff or two when it comes to losing weight, as a guy who lost over a 100 pounds in 6 months, I know what works, what doesn’t and what works but will kill you in the long run.
- Fuel yourself with the right food.
We’ve all heard it by now that diet is 75% and training is 25%, as a matter of fact, it’s true. As much as you think it sucks to eat a mountain of spinach, kale and lettuce, what you put into your mouth is directly related to how you’re gonna look the next month or in a year or however long it takes for you to reach your goal.
Eat foods rich in complex carbohydrates that will fuel you with the energy you need throughout the day. Eat high amounts of fruits and vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds and little to no oil and refined sugar. Completely cut out dairy ( as much as TIME Magazine says butter is good for you, it not. I’m gonna be honest with you guys.) and you’re not a baby cow ( Damn, these Vegans were right). And leave out eggs too ( cholesterol is the main reason for why people die of heart disease, stroke and all other reasons why people die of clogged arteries today and eggs are one of the foods with highest cholesterol content). If you’re a meat eater, I would suggest you try to not eat meat or at the least reduce how much you’re eating. This might seem like another Vegan propaganda but it’s not, it’s science-backed information that will not only help you shed a few pounds but will save your life. Also eat foods high in protein and fibre because that’s going to keep you full between meals. Count calories if you can or make sure you eat whole foods. Because weight loss is simple – CALORIES IN < CALORIES OUT.
- Move your body.
Moving your body doesn’t mean you have to get a gym membership and start working out in the gym everyday, NO. Make sure you get in your 10,000 steps everyday, go for a morning jog or walk. Do morning stretches or do free squats, push ups, pull ups and other body weight exercises you can find on the internet. (Google is your best friend). Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Do yoga, do cycling, do HIIT, do whatever you’re comfortable doing. Because if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, there is no way you’re going to do it long term. We are designed not to be sitting before a desk the whole day, so keep moving every hour or so, even if its a walk to the office restroom and back. The thing is when you keep your heart rate high and you’re out of breath, you start burning stored fat. And you also feel really good after you’re done with it.
- Hydration is the key.
Did you know you’re anywhere from 60% to 75% water? Water is essential for your body to push out all the toxins in your system. Screw the 8 glasses a day rule, drink enough water that your pee is transparent (yes, we’re getting personal here). Water is life, I drink about 6-7 litres a day ( thats around 1.5 to 2 gallons for you Americans). In the begining, you might pee a lot but your body gets used to it and as time progresses, your peeing becomes normal. Plus your acne clears up and you get a clear skin as a bonus.
- Lower that stress.
Stress and weight gain go hand in hand. There has been scientific studies that prove this claim. It may either be a result of over eating when your stressed or maybe just the way your body reacts to stress by storing fat. Whatever it is, stress is not good for you, and like the saying goes “You can’t have physical health without focusing on the mental health”. So do meditation, go for a walk on the beach, get a hobby, dance, sing or do whatever it is that takes for you to keep stress at bay.
- Be patient.
It is easy to lose motivation and get off the track when you’ve been working so hard and yet see no results. We’ve become accostomed to this fast lifestyle, we want everything to happen fast – fast food, fast ride to the office, fast everything. But each of our body works differently, some may see results immeadietly and other not so soon – So don’t beat yourself up and don’t take this as an excuse to binge eat all the crap in the world. Throw away the weighing scale and stop comparing your results with others. Compare your results with how you looked or felt yesterday VS how you look or feel today. Do it long term and you will start seeing results.
These are the 5 tips that will get you started on your fitness journey and help you reach your goals. Stay strong and motivated and above all stay classy.
